Born in 1958, studied information technology at the University of the German Armed Forces, Neubiberg, graduating as Diplom-Informatiker in 1982.
Career:
From 1978 to 1990 Edwin Eichler was trained and employed as an officer in the German Army and at the same time provided management support for Glockengießerei Perner GmbH, Passau.
In 1990 he joined the Bertelsmann group in Gütersloh as assistant to the IT director. A year later he was appointed managing director applications development, and in 1994 became managing director of Mohndruck Grafische Betriebe GmbH. From 1995 to September 2002 he was chairman of the management board of the Mohn Media group. In 1996 he was also appointed to the management board of Bertelsmann Industrie AG, which was renamed Bertelsmann Arvato AG in 2000.
Edwin Eichler has been a member of the Executive Board of ThyssenKrupp AG since October 2002. In October 2002 he was also appointed chairman of the Executive Board of ThyssenKrupp Materials AG, which became ThyssenKrupp Services AG in 2003, where he held the same position until September 2009. From October 2006 to March 2009 he was also Executive Board chairman of ThyssenKrupp Elevator AG, and from April 2009 to September 2009 chairman of the Executive Boards of ThyssenKrupp Steel AG and ThyssenKrupp Stainless AG. Since October 2009 Edwin Eichler has been responsible on the Executive Board of ThyssenKrupp AG for the Materials division. In addition he is CEO of the Steel Europe business area of ThyssenKrupp AG.
